BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT-BUSTED T CAFÉ

BY: Carolyn Penfield

"We chose Lemmon because it's small with a very low crime rate." Safety was a major concern to the O'Conners after living in Rosamond, California where the crime rate was high."

On March 15, 2001 they took over the ownership of the Busted T Cafe.

O'Connor wants the Busted T Café to be the type of place you can walk into today and feel right at home! "Everyone who comes in can be assured of being treated like a member of the family", stated Peggy. One of her fondest memories was, "before Christine Hanson became a resident of Five Counties Nursing Home, on Sundays Christine would have Arrow Transit bring her to the Busted T for dinner and then I would take her home, walk her to the door and make sure she was in her apartment before I left and I loved it!"

Every Wednesday during the Winter months from 3:00-4:00 the bowling league ladies go to the Busted T for Pie. Peggy recollected that "there were fourteen ladies setting around one of the large tables and it was full."

On Mondays, the Busted T specialty is Knepla Soup which will really warm you up on a cold winter day!

Peggy chuckled remembering last Summer when the ladies of the "Red Hat Society" from Dickinson were scheduled to have lunch at the Busted T. The tour group co-ordinator had scheduled 30 ladies for lunch and the "Red Hat Society" from Hettinger decided to attend also and she ended up with 50 ladies! "When I looked around the dining room and saw all of the red hats and red blouses, I was overwhelmed," she stated. "I only had two waitresses on that day and the "Red Hat" ladies pitched in and helped serve the drinks and the food and seemed to enjoy themselves."

A goal for the Busted T is to add more bakery items, such as muffins, a bigger variety of cookies, jello desserts and some new " fun" side dishes.

The Busted T is open from 6:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. On Thursday evenings they are open from 6:00- 7:00 P.M. for "Waffle Night". On Sundays they are open from 6:00 A. M. - 2:00P.M.

The Busted T also caters to the breakfast crown with breakfast all day long. The Busted T special seems to be a favorite off the breakfast menu.

Peggy commented, "people should watch for new things that will be happening at the Busted T in the near future."

The Busted T employees are: David Bohen, Millie Holdahl, Jan Lory, Kim Jespen Carolyn Tracy and Bill Erhardt.

Peggy's family consists of her husband Michael, who is employed at the Lemmon Livestock. Children: daughter, Tina who is attending Black Hills State University and is a CNA at the Dorsett Nursing Home. Son, Jason who is stationed with the 153rd ou of Huron in Irac. Jason will be back in the states February 21st. Son Chirstopher who is 14 and in the 9th grade. One grandson Donavon who is 6 and in Kindergarten.

If you are looking for a great breakfast, a thick hamburger with homemade french fries or maybe a warm bowl of knepla soup, try the Busted T Café, "you won't go home hungry!"
